The Storybag
Once upon a time, there was a greedy young boy who collected stories from travelers and stuffed them into his magic storybag. Here the stories were kept, placed on a shelf and always ready for the boy's enjoyment. However, the boy grew up and fell in love with a young woman, and he forgot about the storybag and all the stories within it. The stories sat for years on the shelf, at first lonely, and then desperate to escape. They plotted to kill the boy on the day of his wedding so that they would be free of the bag to roam the world. However, the boy's servant overheard the whispering stories, and was able to save his master from the vindictive plans. The servant told the boy of the spiteful stories, and the boy let the stories go. Never again did he keep the stories he found to himself.
About the Forum
The storybag is a Korean folk tale that encourages people to share their experiences and ideas. Essentially, that is what the Storybag forum is! We are a developing play-by-post creative writing community, bent on entertainment, exploration, and expression.
What is play-by-post?
The forum will develop to cater to those who use it, but as it stands presently, we're largely approaching this as play-by-post. Play-by-post is a creative writing/role playing game method of storytelling, where each author develops a character and begins their story. Characters interact with each other to further the adventure. Generally, this is written in third person perspective to make it easier to follow, but we're flexible and open to experimentation.
Are there rules?
This forum has only one cardinal rule:
-Unless otherwise stated by the author, you may control only the actions and dialogue of your own character.
Then we have a couple courtesy guidlines:
-If a story is on fire (more than 40 posts,) please request an invite before joining.
-Please check spelling and grammar.
-Please be kind to your fellow authors and focus on the story, not style.
-Any rating is allowed, but this is a proboards forum so try to keep from getting overly graphic, we may have little ones hanging around.
-If you'd like to specify a rating, state so in the opening post. Please respect these ratings.
That's it!
How do I categorize my story?
Categories are very flexible. We understand that cross-genre writing is usually the most fun, so select the genre that your story primarily starts off as, and feel free to develop from there!
